VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Produce Pantry Program

  • Primary tasks include organizing and boxing up produce in preparation for pickup at the Global Gardens Pond Street Farm Hub. Volunteers work together with guidance from farm staff and Lead Volunteer to help support distribution efforts.

    ***Seasonal (Jun-Oct) Weekly Commitment***

    ***Must be comfortable lifting up to 30lbs from ground up***

    ***Starts @ 9:30am. End time varies based on volume of produce***

  • Volunteers pick up packed produce from Global Gardens Pond Street Farm Hub and deliver to designated community pantry sites throughout the Treasure Valley. Shift lengths and times vary.

    30 min - 1.5 hour Shifts
    Time slots from 10:30am-12pm
    Delivery locations in Boise/Garden City/Meridian/Eagle/Caldwell/Marsing

    ***Must be comfortable lifting 30lbs and have a vehicle with working AC (during the summer) and capacity to fit an appropriate amount of produce boxes.***

  • Volunteers pick up produce at Idaho Botanical Garden's Vegetable Garden and deliver it to the BSU Food Pantry, then return bins/tubs to the Garden for the next harvest. A round trip shift!

    ***Seasonal (May-Oct) Weekly Commitment***

    ***Between 10-11am***

    ***Must be comfortable lifting up to 30lbs and have a vehicle with working AC (during the summer) and capacity to fit up to six 20” x 24” and 12” bins***

  • Volunteers pick up City of Good’s surplus boxes from designated distribution partners in Boise and return them to the Global Gardens Pond St. Hub for reuse. This shift helps save us thousands of dollars in box costs.

    ***11am-1pm***

    ***Must be comfortable lifting 30lbs and have a vehicle with capacity to fit up to 100 flattened produce boxes.***

  • 1st & 3rd Thursdays August-October

    Volunteers pick up packed produce from the Global Gardens Pond Street Farm cold storage and deliver it to designated recipient school pantries in the community.

    ***Seasonal (Aug-Oct) Bimonthly Commitment***

    ***Pick up @ 1:00pm***

    ***Must be comfortable lifting 30lbs and have a vehicle with working AC (during the summer) and capacity to fit an appropriate amount of produce boxes.***

  • Volunteers pick up unsold produce from the Mobile Market’s storage at the Idaho Botanical Garden and deliver it to the VA Food Pantry.

    ***Seasonal (Jun-Oct) Weekly Commitment***

    ***Pick up at 10:00am***

    ***Must be comfortable lifting up to 30lbs and have a vehicle with working AC (during the summer) and capacity to fit up to 10 standard-size grocery bags.***

  • Volunteers accept unsold produce from farmers at the Boise Farmers Market at City of Good’s ‘Surplus Drop-off Station’ then deliver it to our designated community pantry partner, HUB 365.

    Volunteers are responsible for picking up supplies at Idaho Botanical Garden and returning them after delivery.

    ***Seasonal Weekly Commitment***

    ***12:15pm-2pm***

    ***Must be comfortable lifting up to 30lbs and have a vehicle with working AC (during the summer) and capacity to fit up to eight (8) 24" x 16" x 8” produce bins***

    ***This is an excellent ‘buddy’ shift, working together with a friend or partner to accomplish these fun and very important tasks!***

Diverse Food Pantry Program - 3rd Thursdays

  • Volunteers help set up and organize the shelf stable diverse foods at our storage site (our Meridian Kitchen), then pack the individual pantry 'orders' and stage them for the delivery drivers.

    ***Seasonal Monthly Commitment (August - May)***

    ***Begins @ 11:30am***

    ***Must be comfortable lifting up to 20lbs from ground up***

    ***This shift may be combined with a Delivery shift if you have the time and would like to see the full circle of good!***

  • Volunteers pick up the diverse foods from our Meridian (Ten Mile Rd) kitchen and deliver it to designated recipient sites in the community.

    ****Seasonal Monthly Commitment***

    ***Pick up @ 1:00pm***

    **Must be comfortable lifting 30 lbs and have a vehicle with capacity to fit up to 15 standard-size grocery bags (and working AC during the summer!)***

    ***This shift may be combined with a ‘Prep & Pack’ shift if you have the time and would like to see the full circle of good!***

Senior Fuel Kits - Wednesdays

  • Volunteers pick up fuel kits from the City of Good Meridian Kitchen (off Ten Mile Rd) between 10:30am-10:45am and deliver kits to Boise VA Medical center

    ***vehicle with space for 6 standard sized grocery bags***

  • Volunteers pick up fuel kits from the City of Good Meridian Kitchen (off Ten Mile Rd) between 10:30am-10:45am and deliver kits to Bannock Arms Apartments

    ***vehicle with space for 25 standard sized grocery bags***

  • Volunteers pick up fuel kits from the City of Good Meridian Kitchen (off Ten Mile Rd) at 12pm and deliver kits to Hispanic Cultural Center in Nampa

    ***vehicle with space for 31 standard sized grocery bags***

  • Duties vary based on event. General tasks include:

  • Help us address, stuff, seal, and send annual mailings!

  • Assist in making phone calls to our dedicated donors to say “thank you” for supporting City of Good

  • Help us tell City of Good’s story! Attend community events and help educate people about our mission and efforts.

  • Our Meridian kitchen is located in the AmeriBen building at:

    2760 W Excursion Ln, Meridian, ID 83642

  • Detailed instructions will be provided 1-3 days before your shift. You will also be sent a confirmation email along with those details, please check your email/app to stay up to date on your scheduled shifts.

  • For recurring shifts, we encourage you to commit to a consistent schedule for an extended period of time.

    We understand things come up and you may have prior commitments throughout the season. We are happy to work with you to make a volunteer schedule that works for you.

  • Tabling is an outreach strategy used amongst many nonprofit organizations to share their mission, recruit donors & volunteers, and offer community education.

    Organizations set up booths/tables at local community events and invite attendees to take time to learn about their mission & engage with their work

  • No, we often will add more shifts as needed. We will also be launching our congregate meal deliveries soon for deliveries on Fridays.

    We will also on occasion test out new deliveries as we see fit to best serve our partners.
